No. 8 Texas Tech Outlasts Southern Miss, 86-62
Cisti Greenwalt had 21 points and Jia Perkins added 20 as the Lady Raiders handed Southern Miss (6-5) its fifth loss of the season.
?I think Texas Tech is one of the top three teams in the country,? Southern Miss Head Coach Rick Reeves said. ?They are a very good basketball team, and our kids don?t have anything to be ashamed of. The last time we played them, we didn?t compete too well. But I thought we played well tonight, and I think our offense is coming along.?
Down by eight in the first half, the Lady Eagles went on a 6-0 run to pull to within two points, 18-16, at the 12:03 mark. However, the Lady Raiders had a scoring run of their own, a 19-5 run to put the game out of reach, 37-21, with 3:45 left in the half.
Tierra Lassiter led three Lady Eagles with 12 points and eight rebounds. Anna Udicova added 11 points and Jessica Woods had 10. Sonja Brown followed with seven rebounds and had a game-high five blocks.
Texas Tech had three players in double figures overall, as Natalie Ritchie added 11 points, nine of which came on 3-pointers. Greenwalt also had a career-high 11 rebounds.
Southern Miss shot 32 percent from the field, including 3-of-7 from 3-point range.
Southern Miss returns home to host Centenary, Dec. 30, at 7 p.m., closing out the 2002 portion of its schedule.
