Southern Miss Lady Eagle Basketball Team Opens Season at Hampton
Head Coach Rick Reeves, beginning his fourth season, returns a veteran group looking to improve over last season's 11-17 record. The veteran group includes six seniors, three juniors, two sophomores and four freshmen.
Heading the list is La'Tasha Sumerall, who led the team in scoring last season. Sonja Brown returns to anchor the defense. Brown finished second in the nation in blocked shots with a 3.6 average. Other seniors include Jessica Woods, Anna Udicova, Dana Jones and Kelly Parkerson. Juniors Marlena Lee, Lana Lewis and Tierra Lassiter also returns. Allison Story is back after sitting out last season with an injury.
Hampton posted a 17-14 record last season. The Lady Pirates return 11 letterwinners and four starters. LaShondra Dixon, who led the team in scoring, returns for her senior campaign. The top rebounder, Nicole Brathwaite, also returns. Head Coach Patricia Bibbs begins her sixth season at Hampton.
Head Coach Mona Martin is beginning her eighth season at UL-Monroe. Martin returns only five letterwinners and two starters from last year?s team that posted a 9-18 record. Amy Faust is the top returnee, averaged 5.8 points and 4.8 rebounds last season.
Following the two-game road swing, Southern Miss returns home for a five game home stand, beginning Nov. 27, with UCF.
