Southern Miss Lady Eagles Ink All-State Guard from Columbus
HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Southern Miss women's basketball Head Coach Rick Reeves and his staff announced the signing of Columbus High School standout, Dianca Jones, to a National Letter of Intent and Grant-in-Aid agreement today, during the early signing period.
Jones, a 5-8, point guard, plays at Columbus High School, where she was a three-year letterwinner for Coach Scott Tallent. As a junior, Jones averaged 12.0 points and 6.5 rebounds per game. She was named most valuable defensive player for her team. She received all-district, all-north half and all-state honors. Her team finished 30-6 last season, advancing to the championship game of the state finals and finishing as the state runnerup. She is listed as "One of the Seniors to Watch" by the Clarion Ledger. This season, she is averaging 15.0 points and 7.0 rebounds. She helped her team defeated the No. 2 ranked team in the state in her season opener.
"Dianca is a point guard," Reeves said. "With Kelly Parkerson graduating, we felt like we needed to sign another point guard even though we'll have Marlena Lee and Alex Webster back. She will have a couple of experienced players to play behind her first year. Marlena will be a senior when she is a freshman, and I think she'll be ready to step in along with Alex to run this team.
Columbus High School Coach Amanda Brabham said, "Dianca is a very hard worker. She is very athletic and will give you 110 percent every time."
Reeves continued. "Dianca is one of those players who came to our basketball camp. She was one of our first choices and we were excited about her being a part of our Golden Eagle family."
