Lady Eagles Land Louisiana Standout
Carter is a 5-10 forward from Pearl River (La.) High School, where she averaged 17.0 points, 9.0 rebounds and 5.0 assists as a junior for Coach William Beaushaw. She was an all-district selection for two straight seasons. She was named all-St. Tammany Parish and all-metro for three years. She was voted her team's most valuable player. She was an all-state honorable mention. She was a USA Junior National All-American, helping her AAU team to the championship in Atlanta, Ga., in 2001. She also is an outstanding track athlete, setting the school record in the discus throw.
"I'm very excited about coming to Southern Miss," Carter said. "I believe I made the right choice."
High School Coach Lee Williams said, "Deondra is an outstanding player. She is extremely coachable and very dedicated. She also is a good student. She is a versatile athlete who picks up things very quickly. I think she will be a great asset to Southern Miss.
"Deondra is a phenomenal player and student," Reeves said. "She's a versatile player who will add depth to the post position. She is a power post player who is capable of scoring on the low block and stepping out and scoring on the perimeter. We are excited about signing Deondra. She will make a great additon to the Golden Eagle family."
