Reeves Pleased With First Practices
HATTIESBURG, Miss. ? The Southern Miss women?s basketball team held its first practices over the weekend for the 2002-03 season, and Head Coach Rick Reeves was pleased.
?I was pleased with our first few practices,? Reeves said. ?The players are working hard. I think we have a chance to be a pretty good team. I like our enthusiasm and attitude in these early practices.
?It?s a good feeling to have so many veteran players back,? Reeves continued. ?We have Jessica Woods and Allison Story returning, who sat out last season with injuries. It?s been exciting.?
The Lady Eagles return 11 letterwinners from last year?s team that finished 11-17.
?I believe the players came back in great shape,? Reeves said. ?I think Brian Wiseman did an excellent job with them in their weight training. Coach Lee Buchanan did a great job with our conditioning program and that allowed Coach Gwynn, Coach Jackson and myself to be on the road recruiting.?
Southern Miss opens the regular season on the road at Hampton University, Nov. 22, and then on to Louisiana-Monroe, Nov. 24. The Lady Eagles open the home portion of their schedule, Nov. 27 against UCF. Tipoff is set for 4:30 p.m. as part of a doubleheader.
