Golden Eagles Announce Sixth Football Addition
Williams runs a 4.55 in the 40-yard dash and has a 37" vertical jump. He was rated as a four-star defensive end by rivals.com.
After originally signing to play at Auburn in 2000, Williams enrolled at Coffeyville CC. He redshirted his freshman season and then suffered a back injury and wasn't able to participate for the 2001 season. He graduated in December 2001, and enrolled at Southern Miss for the spring semester.
Over his prep career, Williams was a four-year starter at defensive end at Pine Forest High School in Pensacola, Fla., a teammate of current Golden Eagle Dillon Cleckler. He earned all-state honors as a defensive end but also played tight end. He finished with 82 tackles and 9.5 sacks as a senior.
Williams also lettered in basketball, also earning all-state honors. He averaged 10 points and 14 rebounds a contest and led the state of Florida in blocked shots as a senior. Originally, he chose Auburn over Alabama, Southern Miss and Middle Tennessee State before enrolling at Coffeyville.
Southern Miss now has signed six players during the mid-semester signing period, three junior college prospects, DeMarcus Barner, Bernard Godfrey and Ronald Jones, along with two freshmen, Akeem Lockett and Karlin Riley.
