Southern Miss Lady Eagles Get Second-Straight C-USA Win
Southern Miss (9-9, 2-3 in C-USA) had three scorers in double-figures, paced by La'Tasha Sumerall's game-high 19 points, including 5-of-6 shooting from behind the three-point line. The Lady Eagles also shot 42 percent from the floor, and 47 percent from three-point range. Defensively, Southern Miss limited the Lady Blazers (8-10, 0-5) to 34 percent shooting in the game.
"We have a very versatile team, and we wanted to go with a faster lineup today," Southern Miss Head Coach Rick Reeves said. "We wanted to defend the paint against their three big post players to set the tempo. I think we did that tonight."
Along with Sumerall, Tierra Lassiter and Sonja Brown followed with 17 and 12 points, respectively. Brown also had three blocks in the game, giving her 75 for the season, setting a career record. Lassiter had a team-high seven rebounds.
For UAB, Natasha Thomas led the way with a double-double, 15 points and 12 rebounds. Lia Green had 13 points and Allison Graham added 12.
Southern Miss returns to action on the road against Marquette (11-7, 4-1), Friday at 7 p.m.
