Lady Eagle Basketball Lands Junior College All-Star
SOUTHERN MISS WOMEN'S BASKETBALL TEAM LANDS JUNIOR COLLEGE ALL-STAR
HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- Southern Miss Women's Basketball Coach Rick Reeves announced the signing of junior college all-star, Kelly Parkerson, to a National Letter of Intent for the 2001-2002 academic year, Tuesday.
Parkerson, a 5-7, guard, played for Coach Bobby Hudson at Volunteer State Community College in Gallatin, Tenn. She averaged 12.5 points, 3.9 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 2.5 steals per game this past year. She was an all-Region VII and all-star selection. Her team posted a 48-11 record, winning the TJCCAA Western Divion for two consecutive seasons. She was named to the TJCCAA all-Western Divison for two years. She won the three-point shooting contest at the 2001 all-star game.
"We are expecting Kelly to step in and make an immediate impact," Reeves said. "Her team was 28-11 the two seasons she was there. She will step in and be leader at point guard for us."
Parkerson was a four-year letterwinner at DeKalb County High School, where she played for Coach Jerry Foster. She averaged 14.0 points and 3.0 rebounds during her senior season. She was a first team all-district selection.
"Kelly is a coach on the floor," Hudson said. We won 49 games with her. She is quality player who will be an asset to any program"
Parkerson is the fourth signee for the Lady Eagles, and second this spring.
