Tulane Drills Lady Eagles 84-45
NEW ORLEANS, La. - Southern Miss Lady Eagles ended
their regular season with the worst defeat since 1996, losing 84-45 to Tulane
on Thursday, Febraury 22 in Fogelman Arena. The Lady Eagles lost for the fifth
straight time in as many games.
Victoria Mason led Southern Miss (12-15, 5-11) with 14 points, including 13
second half points. Tulane's Janell led all scorers with a game-high 29
points and 15 points, Sarah Goree had 16 points, and Teana McKiver and Britt
Themann added 11 points each.
"We didn't shoot very well tonight," Head Coach Rick Reeves said. "We missed
a lot of easy shots, and some uncontested shots. It was senior night here,
and Burse went out in style."
Tulane (19-9, 12-4) opened the second half scoring the first five points, and
never looked back. The Green Wave connected on 10 three-pointesr on the
night and out rebounded Southern Miss, 57-40.
Tulane jumped out to a 6-0 lead on two consecutive three-pointers by Goree.
Tulane, then, went on 12-2 run, over the next two minutes to take an 18-4
lead. Tulane pushed its lead to 16 points, 22-6, before the Lady Eagles out
scored Tulane, 6-2, to cut the lead to 12, 24-12. Southern Miss finished the
half, shooting only 20 percent from the field. The Green Wave largest lead
in the half was 19 points, 34-15, at the 3:22 mark. Each team hit one
three-pointer in the last 2:38. Tulane led 37-18 at the half.
Southern Miss travels to Milwaukee, Wis., for the Conference USA Tournament,
Mar. 2-5. Seeding for the tournament will be announced on Sunday night.
