Women's Basketball Hosts UAB and Memphis
Southern Miss wraps up its regular season home schedule, UAB on Friday at 7 p.m., and Memphis on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. The 2000-2001 seniors will be honored in a pregame ceremony on Sunday.
Cellular One will sponsor the UAB game, and has designated the game as "Break the Record" game. For the second-straight year, Southern Miss will attempt to break the state record for the highest attendance at a women's basketball game. The standing record of 5,863 is currently held by Mississippi State, who set the new attendance record last season on February 17, 2000, against Tennessee. The standing school record for Southern Miss is 5,024, set last season on Feb. 12, 2000, against Houston in a nationally-televised game.
The Lady Eagles (12-12, 5-8) are coming off a 55-52 loss at South Florida on Sunday, Feb. 11. Victoria Mason led the Lady Eagles in scoring with 10 points, while Jessica Woods pulled down 10 rebounds.
UAB is 15-8 overall and 7-5 in conference play, following an 87-71 win against Saint Louis on Sunday, Feb. 11. Deanna Jackson led the Lady Blazers with a game-high 27 points, and seven rebounds, Natasha Thomas added 20 points.
Memphis is 12-11 overall and 5-7 in C-USA, after a 76-71 win against Charlotte on Sunday, Feb. 11. Tiffany Adkins led four Lady Tigers in double-figure scoring with 21 points.
Southern Miss leads the series with UAB, 22-11, in a series that date back to the 1978-79 season. UAB has won six of the last nine meetings, including a 62-55 loss at UAB, on Jan. 19. Southern Miss trails in the series with Memphis, 18-15. The Lady Eagles defeated Memphis in overtime, 65-52, in the first meeting this season.
