Southern Miss Lady Eagles Fall To Kentucky, 59-44
The Southern Miss Lady Eagles had their two-game win streak snapped, losing to Kentucky, 59-44, Friday night, in the first game of the Blue Sky Restaurant Classic. Southern Miss dropped to 6-6, while Kentucky improved to 6-5.
Victoria Mason led Southern Miss with 14 points and La'Tasha Sumerall added 10 points. Sonja Brown and Dana Jones pulled down 11 and 10 rebounds, respectively. SeSe Helm led Kentucky with a game-high 17 points, 15 in the first half, Sara Potts scored 11 points and LaTonya McDole added 10 points.
Kentucky took advantage of 27 Lady Eagle turnovers and poor shooting for the win. Southern Miss finished the game shooting only 26.7 percent from the field and 57.9 percent from the free throw line.
Southern Miss went almost five minutes without scoring, while Kentucky used an 12-0 run during the Lady Eagle drought to build a 16-point lead, 54-38. Southern Miss managed to score six points in the last 2:42 of the game.
Southern Miss returns to action Saturday, playing the loser of the Dartmouth/Lafayette game, at 5 p.m.
