Lady Eagle Basketball Team Suffer Another Loss To Injury
With the 2001-02 regular season opener only a week away, Southern Miss women's basketball team suffered another major loss today. Sophomore guard Allison Story will undergo surgery, Monday, Nov. 12, to repair a torn rotator cuff suffered during a scrimmage. Story will redshirt for the rest of the season.
Story is the third player to received a major injury this season. Senior Jessica Woods tore her ACL during the preseason and will have to sit out, and senior Janique Williams was diagnosed with a degenerative hip injury that caused her to end her basketball career.
"We have lost two regular starters and a part-time starter to injuries," Head Coach Rick Reeves said. "I am disappointed for the players, and I feel bad for them. We only have 12 healthy bodies now. Jessica started 18 games for us last year, Janique started 23 games, and Allison started nine. That's a lot of experience to lose."
Southern Miss opens the regular season, Nov. 16, in Reed Green Coliseum, against South Alabama.
