Southern Miss Completes Preparation For Alabama
Hattiesburg, Miss. - Southern Miss completed its preparation with an inside practice today due to the inclement weather. The Golden Eagles put the final touches on its game plan for its game with Alabama on Thursday at 6 p.m., at Legion Field in Birmingham, Ala. The game will air on ESPN2.
Head Coach Jeff Bower's team will leave late Wednesday morning and arrive at Legion Field for a short walk-through in the afternoon before going to the hotel.
With the short week already, having to go inside today hindered the Golden Eagles preparation, as they have only been able to practice outside twice this week.
"It is hard to have a good practice when you have to go inside," Bower said. "When you can't throw and catch the ball and work on your kicking game, it hurts you. We've only had two days outside to prepare for the game on a short week and today was an important day. We came in here and got as much done as we could."
When looking at the game, Bower admits that one of his main concerns against the Tide is stopping their high-powered running attack.
"My biggest concern is stopping the run, but also to defend the pass," Bower said. "They are running for about 230 yards, and they are number one in the SEC. They have two backs who are really good. You have to play well and defend the pass, but they want to run the football. That is what you have to line up and try to stop in order to make them one dimensional.
"We have to play hard, physical and minimize mistakes. We have to take care of the football and be good in the kicking game. That will be very important."
