Southern Miss Prepares For ECU
Hattiesburg, Miss. - Southern Miss continued to prepare for Friday's game at East Carolina, today, as the Golden Eagles continue to work with a short-week schedule.
Head Coach Jeff Bower's team will work Wednesday afternoon and then enjoy a team Thanksgiving meal at lunch Thursday, before departing for Greenville, N.C., and Friday's 10 a.m., CT, game. That game will be carried on ESPN.
Bower says this week's work has been good, despite the limited time available. "We do need one more day we have available," he said. "We need to do some things better tomorrow, from an execution standpoint; but, so far, I think it has been a good week of preparation. If we just finish strong Wednesday, we'll be in good shape."
Bower says the Pirates will "play their game. They're good, they'll mix it up, give the ball to (Leonard) Henry, use play action pass, take shots at big plays, they love to do that and they're good at it."
Bower also says Pirate quarterback, David Garrard, presents a problem for the Golden Eagle defense. "He's hard to tackle, he said. "He can throw, he can run, he's experienced, and he doesn't make a lot of mistakes. Every coach likes to have a quarterbacks, who have played a lot of games. This one is like that. Plus, he's good."
With the recent off weeks, Bower also says his team is in about as good shape physically as it has been since the preseason.
Tickets to the Golden Eagles' remaining home game, as well as the road game at Alabama, remain on sale at the athletic ticket office located in the Ferlise Center on the Southern Miss campus, or by calling 601/266-5418 or 1-800-844-TICK.
