Lady Eagles Have Spirited First Practice
The Southern Miss Lady Eagle basketball team completed its first two practices, Saturday, in preparation for the 2001-02 season.
?We were real pleased with our first practices,? Head Coach Rick Reeves said. ?The players came out with great attitudes and worked hard. We have only one senior practicing with Jessica (Woods) and Janique (Williams) out because of injuries, and that makes us fairly young. We are real excited with the team's progress.?
Southern Miss opens the season with an exhibition game, Nov. 6, against an NWBL team, before opening the regular season Nov. 16, hosting South Alabama at 7 p.m.
We had a very spirited practice,? Reeves said. ?They really got after it.?
The Lady Eagles return only two starters among the seven returning letterwinners from last year?s team that finished the season with a 12-16 record. With the loss of Woods and Williams, Reeves will rely on the experience of four junior college transfers and two freshmen to fill the void.
The Lady Eagles regular practices are scheduled from 2:30 to 5:30, daily, beginning Monday, Oct. 15, but will trade out days with the volleyball team. Tomorrow?s practice is scheduled for 2 p.m., followed by a Meet the Lady Eagle pot luck in the Coliseum.
