One of the best all-around athletes in Southern Miss’ storied history, Ashley Reyer earned four letters for the Golden Eagles from 2004-07 as a standout athlete in the heptathlon and pentathlon.

Reyer, a native of Petal, Mississippi, arrived in Hattiesburg as a freshman and immediately began climbing the pentathlon and heptathlon, finishing eight and seventh at the Conference USA championship meets, respectively. Improved to fifth in the pentathlon on the indoor side as a sophomore with 3,455 points and fourth in the heptathlon in the outdoor C-USA championship with 4,903 points.

In 2006, she earned First Team All-C-USA honors in the heptathlon after winning the C-USA Title with 5,392 points and qualified for the NCAA national championship where she finished 14th in country. She set a new program record that stands today in the event and still holds program records in the 4x800-meter relay and shuttle hurdle relay.

On the indoor side, she also earned second-team Pentathlon honors in 2006, posting a then-best 3,735-point performance at the C-USA Indoor Championship. As a senior in 2007, she finished second in the pentathlon again and set a program record of 3,801 that has yet to be beaten. She also earned second team honors in the heptathlon.

She earned national acclaim on April 26, 2007, when she captured the heptathlon crown at the prestigious Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa. Reyer won the 98th running of the event with 5,217 points where she won the long jump (18-5¾) and 800 meters (2:15.67) to finish over 300 points ahead of second place.

After graduating from Southern Miss, Reyer stayed on as a graduate assistant in from 2007-09 and then as a full-time assistant from 2009-10. Reyer resides in Hattiesburg with her husband Stephen and the couple’s two children, Reid (13) and Stephen (11). She currently works as a national sales trainer for Abbvie.
