Michael Gibbs was elevated to tight ends coach by Coach Blake Anderson in December 2025, after spending the 2025 campaign with the Golden Eagles as assistant offensive line coach.
Gibbs, who is in his second stint with the Golden Eagles, returned to Hattiesburg after spending a season at Coffeyville Community College as Offensive Line Coach/ Run Game Coordinator after spending the previous fall as the offensive coordinator at a high school in Escambia Academy in Alabama. Before that, he served as Senior Offensive Analyst at Utah State University from 2021-2022.
In 2021, Utah State had its best season in school history as it tied the school record with 11 wins (11-3). Utah State’s offense set six school records during the 2021 campaign.
In 2020, Gibbs was in a Quality Control role at UCF working with the offensive line. That season UCF ranked second in the nation in total offense (568.1 yards per game), third in passing offense (357.4 ypg), ninth in scoring offense (42.2 points per game) and 25th in rushing offense (210.7 ypg). Gibbs assisted an offensive line that received two 1st team all-conference selections in Matt Lee and Cole Schneider. The Golden Knights finished the 2020 season with an appearance in the Boca Raton Bowl.
In 2019, Gibbs registered his first stint at Southern Miss in an offensive graduate assistant role. The Golden Eagles finished the year 7-6 with an appearance in the Lockheed Martin Armed Forces Bowl.
Gibbs spent three years (2016-2018) as an offensive graduate assistant at Arkansas State. In his first season at A-State, Gibbs helped lead the Red Wolves to an 8-5 overall record, a Sun Belt Conference championship with a 7-1 league record, and a 31-13 victory over UCF in the 2016 Cure Bowl. Gibbs and A-State followed up the 2016 season by making another bowl game appearance the following year, this time playing in the Camellia Bowl to conclude a 2017 campaign that saw the offense average a school-record 494.8 yards per game that ranked No. 10 in the nation.
Gibbs was a two-year football letterman at Delta State University in 2013 and 2014. During his senior season with the Statesmen, Gibbs was selected as a First-Team All-American. Gibbs was also selected to the Gulf South Conference All-Decade team in 2020.
Before joining Delta State, Gibbs played at Hinds Community College. The Brandon, Mississippi native earned his bachelor's degree in physical education from Delta State University in May of 2016 and earned his master’s degree in Sports Management from Arkansas State University in 2018.
