Bio
Lauren Broom joins the Southern Miss staff as a student assistant after completing her eligibility.
A four-year letterwinner, Broom played in 70 matches and 135 sets. She finished her career with 111 kills and 48 total blocks. She was voted the team captain for two consecutive years.
Broom attended Mandeville High School, where she was a three-year letterwinner in volleyball for Coach Jody Walker. While there, she helped lead the Skippers to the Division I state championships, winning in 2006. She recorded 381 kills, 157 digs and 150 blocks during her senior season and set a school record with an attack percentage of .511. She received First Team All-Louisiana honors as a senior, First Team all-district honors twice, First Team All-St. Tammany Parish twice while serving as team captain. She also received the MHS Coaches Award while earning Prep Athlete of the Week by Times-Picayune and 'Playmaker' by Inside Northside Magazine.
Broom also earned three letters in basketball. She played club volleyball for the Volleyball Institute of America for Coach Jimmy Miranda (18s) and Danny Tullis (17s and 16s). She was a member of the Academic All-Louisiana Team, Taylor/Audobon Scholar, Taylor/NOMA Scholar and Skipper Scholar.
She is the daughter of Tom and Janet Broom. Her father played football at Nicholls State and for the New Orleans Saints. She is completing her undergraduagte degree in elementary education.
