Head women's soccer coach Mohammed El-Zare announced the hiring of Juan Cediel on July 27, 2023. Cediel will primarily focus on the development of the goalkeepers.

“Juan brings an exceptional level of personability and communication skills to the team," said El-Zare. "He has extensive experience in training highly competitive goalkeepers at elite levels. His wealth of knowledge in coaching the goalkeeper position aligns perfectly with our values here at Southern Miss. Moreover, I sought someone who could infuse our program with high energy and humility, and Juan embodies these qualities perfectly. We warmly welcome Juan to the Golden Eagles family.”

Cediel joins the Golden Eagles after earning his Bachelor's in Science and Business Administration, and Master's in Business Administration, from Mid-America Christian University. He gained experience as a goalkeeper coach for the men’s team during his time there. He also has contributed his coaching expertise to the Youth Soccer Olympic Development Program and the professional developmental soccer league, USL League 2.
