Laurelai DePew joins the Southern Miss softball staff as a graduate assistant coach, bringing four years of Division I pitching experience from Miami (OH) and Rutgers.
Playing Career
DePew spent her final two collegiate seasons at Rutgers, working out of the circle for the Scarlet Knights in 2024 and 2025. As a junior in 2024, she picked up a run-rule win over Rider at the Mizuno Invitational, tossing four scoreless innings and striking out two, and earned her first Scarlet Knight start in a 7-2 win over Lafayette to open that same tournament, fanning two in three innings of work. In 2025, she made 23 appearances with seven starts, throwing 48.1 innings with 24 strikeouts.
She began her career at Miami (OH), appearing in 16 games with nine starts and three complete games as a sophomore in 2023, finishing 4-4 with 46.1 innings pitched and 17 strikeouts — a season that included a four-hit, two-strikeout outing against Loyola Chicago. As a freshman in 2022, she appeared in five games with one start, striking out two batters across 8.2 innings and picking up her first career win in the season finale at Central Michigan.
Personal
DePew earned first team all-conference honors as a junior in high school and also lettered in volleyball. She is the daughter of Salena and Charles DePew.
