Elizabeth "Izzy" Werdann enters her fifth season with the Southern Miss Softball program, and her third serving as an assistant coach.
Werdann came to Southern Miss as a graduate assistant for the program in August 2019 and then served as a volunteer assistant coach before being promoted to a full-time assistant coach prior to the 2023 season.
In her first season with Southern Miss, Werdann assisted the Golden Eagles in their 14-8 start before COVID prematurely ended the season. She was a part of a 29-win program in 2022, which featured a road victory over then-No. 4 Florida.
Werdann served as an assistant coach in Head Coach Natalie Poole's first season in 2023, overseeing the best start by a first-year head coach in program history.
In 2024, Werdann helped lead the Golden Eagles to their second straight conference tournament appearance for the first time since the 2012 and 2013 seasons. The Golden Eagles also secured a victory against a nationally ranked opponent with a home win versus No. 24 Texas State. Southern Miss finished the 2024 home slate with a 10-6 record, marking the third consecutive season that the team finished the home slate at .500 or better, the longest streak since 2008-2010.
Werdann competed as a catcher and third baseman in her softball career. Before completing her undergraduate career at Ole Miss, she was an NJCAA All-American in 2017 and a two-time MACJC in 2016 and 2017 at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College. She was also a state champion at Tate High School.
She graduated from Ole Miss in 2019 with her bachelor's degree in general studies with minors in education, sports and recreation management and psychology. She graduated Summa Cumme Laude. Before Ole Miss, she graduated with her associate degree from Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College in May of 2017.
