John Barnett joined the Southern Miss football staff in August 2011. In 2014, Barnett was promoted to assistant director of football operations, and most recently, director of football operations for the 2015 campaign.
Barnett joined the Golden Eagles in 2011 as a graduate assistant in the football video department, where he filmed all practices and games and assisted with all day-to-day video operations. In 2012, Barnett shifted into a dual-role, working with both the video and operations departments. While maintaining his video responsibilities, he also assisted in all aspects of team travel, event operations, fundraising, clinics and camps.
Following the 2012 season, Barnett shifted out of the video department and became the assistant recruiting coordinator, where he assisted with all recruiting logistics, such as mailouts, visitations and summer camps, while maintaining operational duties.
Barnett earned his graduate degree from Southern Miss in sport management in 2012 and his undergraduate degree from Virginia Tech in 2011, graduating magna cum laude in human services. He is the son of Gregory and Tami Barnett of Winchester, Va.
