Brian Whitehead returns for his third year as part of the Golden Eagle football program and will oversee the nickel position this fall.
The Golden Eagle coach came to Southern Miss after spending 2020-21 at Wisconsin-La Crosse, two years at Wofford College, where they won the league title both years he was there, and at his alma mater of Wisconsin-Platteville.
He was a three-year letterwinner at wide receiver for UWP and went on to play a season for the Fursty Razorbacks in Germany before beginning his coaching career at Glenbard South High School in the fall of 2015.
A native of Elgin, Ill., he graduated from Larkin High School. He received his bachelor’s degree in Health and Human Performance from UW-Platteville in 2015. He and his wife, Ilse, were married in July 2019, and they have a son, Mason.
