General
* Tonight’s Attendance – 19,579
* Captains – 13 Picasso Nelson Jr., 55 Demarrio Smith, 79 Drake Dorbeck. Brett Favre was an honorary captain.
* ULM won the toss and elected to defer. Southern Miss received the opening kick and defended the north end zone.
* Southern Miss now holds a 4-2 all-time record against ULM. Prior to tonight’s contest, the last meeting between the Golden Eagles and the Warhawks occurred on September 16, 2017 at Malone Stadium in Monroe, La. Southern Miss won the contest by a final score of 28-17.
* Before tonight, ULM’s last victory against USM occurred on November 7, 1987 in Hattiesburg, Miss. ULM won the contest by a final score of 34-24.
Offensive Notes
* Southern Miss scored on the opening play of the game. Jaylond Adams received a shovel pass from Jack Abraham (75 yards) with 14:47 remaining in the first quarter.
* Adams’ touchdown marks the first time that Southern Miss has scored on the opening play of the game since their game against UAB on October 28, 2017 at M.M. Roberts Stadium. Ito Smith caught a pass from Keon Howard for an 84-yard touchdown.
* Longest reception for Adams of his Southern Miss career (75-yard pass from Jack Abraham on the opening play of the game).
* Longest pass for Abraham of his Southern Miss career (75-yard pass completed to Jaylond Adams on the opening play of the game).
* ULM tied the game after Sam Miller recovered a fumble in the end zone for a touchdown with 12:05 remaining in the first quarter.
* Jack Abraham threw the first interception of his career while attempting a play action pass. Abraham’s pass was intercepted by Marcus Hubbard at the USM 47-yard line and was returned to the USM 49-yard line before Hubbard went out-of-bounds.
* Tez Parks recorded the longest reception of his Southern Miss career after hauling in a 34-yard pass from Jack Abraham in the first quarter.
* Saturday’s game against ULM marks the second consecutive week that Jack Abraham has recorded over 100 passing yards in the first quarter.
* Quez Watkins scored the second touchdown of the game for Southern Miss after receiving a 5-yard pass from Jack Abraham with 6:36 remaining in the second quarter. It marked his fifth touchdown of the season (fourth on receiving end).
* Jaylond Adams recorded a career high, 158 receiving yards. Adams’ 158 receiving yards were the most recorded by a Southern Miss receiver since Korey Robertson tallied 159 against Rice in 2017.
* Jaylond Adams recorded the second 100+ receiving yards game of his Southern Miss career.
* Jack Abraham’ 378 passing yards were the most by a Golden Eagle since Nick Mullens recorded 591 against Rice in 2016.
Defensive Notes
* Tyler Barnes recorded the lone fumble recovery of the game for Southern Miss. Barnes’ fumble recovery was his first of the 2018 season and the second of his Southern Miss career.
* Ky’el Hemby recorded his second interception of the season after intercepting a Caleb Evans pass at the USM 8-yard line. Hemby became the first Southern Miss player to record interceptions in back-to-back games since Picasso Nelson Jr. did so in 2014. Nelson recorded back-to-back interceptions against Appalachian State and Rice.
Special Team Notes
* Parker Shaunfield kicked a 42-yard field goal with 2:01 remaining in the first quarter.
* Zac Everett recorded the longest punt of his Southern Miss career after punting a ball 70 yards in the second quarter.
* Jaylond Adams recorded a career best, 36-yard punt return in the second quarter.
* Parker Shaunfield attempted a career long, 53-yard field goal but missed wide left.
* Parker Shaunfield kicked a 47-yard field goal, the longest of the 2018 season for Southern Miss.
* Parker Shaunfield attempted a 49-yard field goal but missed wide left with 5:42 remaining in the fourth quarter.
Miscellaneous Notes
* Former USM and longtime NFL quarterback Brett Favre and former ULM quarterback and current Philadelphia Eagles head coach Doug Pederson were in attendance for the contest. Favre and Pederson met at midfield for the coin toss prior to the contest as honorary captains for their respective alma maters.
