| Â Â Â | From the Broadcast Booth: 15th Entry January 20, 2012 Â It has been an amazing start to the 2011-2012 basketball season for Coach Larry Eustachy and the Southern Miss Golden Eagles. Without question, they have a great opportunity to be right in the thick of things in the battle for the Conference USA championship this season. Â More... |
| From the Broadcast Booth: 14th Entry January 13, 2012 Â Despite their heart-breaking 60-58 loss to the Memphis Tigers on Wednesday night at the Fed Ex Forum, the Golden Eagle basketball team is off to one of the best starts in school history and the race towards the Conference USA championship should be a good one and you can expect the Golden Eagles to be in the middle of things as it heads down the stretch. | Â Â Â | From the Broadcast Booth: 13th Entry December 16, 2011 Â As the Golden Eagles prepare to head out to Honolulu, Hi., for the Sheraton Hawai'i Bowl on Christmas Eve, it will mark the second time that the Golden Eagles have flown out to the islands for football. The first time occurred during the 1977 season, when the Golden Eagles met the University of Hawai'i, Oct. 15, at Aloha Stadium, the same place where the bowl game will be played. It was a beautiful night for football with temperatures about 81 degrees and the wind blowing about 15 miles. There were rain showers near the mountains that night. A crowd of 26,474 were on hand to watch the first, and only matchup, between Southern Miss and Hawai'i. Â More... |
| From the Broadcast Booth: 12th Entry December 1, 2011 Â What an exciting time it is for our Golden Eagle football team as they head to Houston this Saturday to play in the Conference USA championship game against the Houston Cougars. What an incredible job Coach Larry Fedora and his coaching staff have done in guiding the team through the season to put themselves in a position to win the fifth Conference USA championship in school history. The leadership displayed by the 21 seniors on this team has been inspiring and what a fitting tribute it would be for those young men to walk away with the league crown this Saturday afternoon. | Â Â Â | From the Broadcast Booth: 11th Entry November 10, 2011 Â Everyone is getting ready for a busy weekend on campus and of course gearing up for the football game between the Golden Eagles and the Knights of UCF. Saturday night's game will be just the seventh meeting in history between the two schools and the first meeting was only seven years ago in 2005. Â More... |
| From the Broadcast Booth: 10th Entry November 5, 2011 Â Saturday afternoon at Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium in Greenville, N.C., the Golden Eagles and East Carolina will meet on the football field for the 37th time. The first time occurred back in 1951 and today marks the 29th-straight year that the two teams have met. The Golden Eagles have won 26 of the previous 36 meetings between the two teams and have won 15 of the 18 games played in Greenville. There have been many memorable battles over the years between the Golden Eagles and the Pirates, but one game sticks out as perhaps the strangest game ever played between the two squads and one of the strangest in the history of Golden Eagle football. | Â Â Â | From the Broadcast Booth: 9th Entry October 27, 2011 Â As the Golden Eagles head to El Paso, Texas, for Saturday night's Conference USA matchup with the UTEP Miners, we are reminded that although the football series between the two teams amounts to just four games they have all in some unique way been very memorable. | From the Broadcast Booth: 8th Entry October 20, 2011 Â There is a lot of the line Saturday night at The Rock when Southern Miss plays host SMU in what has all the ingredients to be one of the more memorable Conference USA games ever played here. Both teams have a lot on the line as they prepare for this contest. Both teams have their sights set on a conference championship, postseason bowl games, national rankings and a spot on the radar with the best teams in the country. Â More... | Â Â Â |
| Â Â Â | From the Broadcast Booth: 7th Entry October 13, 2011 Â Did you know that the University of Southern Mississippi (then Mississippi Southern College) is believed to have been one of just a handful of teams to have played a college football game outside the continental United States? For the final game of the 1946 season, the Southerners took their first plane flight, traveling to Cuba to play the University of Havana in a Dec. 14 game dubbed the "Tobacco Bowl," with a $300 silver loving cup to be presented to the winner. If the Americans won, the cup was scheduled to be returned to Havana, the following year and presented to the victor in a game between Havana and another U.S. team. Â More... |
| From the Broadcast Booth: 6th Entry October 6, 2011 Â Saturday afternoon marks the first-ever meeting in football between Southern Miss and Navy. It sounds like we will have an outstanding contingent of Golden Eagles fans at the Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in Annapolis to watch the game. If you have never been to Annapolis and are going this weekend you are really going to enjoy your trip there. Annapolis is the capital of the state of Maryland and is steeped in history and with Washington, D.C. not to far away there are numerous things to enjoy and see while you are there. | Â Â Â | From the Broadcast Booth: 5th Entry September 30, 2011 Â When the Golden Eagles take on the Rice Owls this Saturday night at The Rock, I hope that you take the opportunity to watch and enjoy the play of senior quarterback Austin Davis, because you are running out of opportunities to watch a young man, who will go down as one of the greatest and most talented quarterbacks that have ever worn the Black and Gold. | From the Broadcast Booth: 4th Entry September 26, 2011 Â The Golden Eagle football team will travel to Charlottesville, Va., this weekend to meet the Virginia Cavaliers for just the second time in history. The only other time that the two teams played was back on Sept. 19, 2009, when the Golden Eagles rallied from a 17-point deficit to win 37-34 at the Rock. In that game, the Golden Eagles held the Cavaliers to just seven points in the second half and rallied thanks to a couple of big plays - a 100-yard kick-off return by Freddie Parham with just over 13 minutes to go and a 57-yard touchdown run by tailback Tory Harrison with eight minutes left - that gave the Golden Eagles their only lead of the game and proved to be the game winner. | Â Â Â | From the Broadcast Booth: 3rd Entry September 13, 2011 Â One of the most exciting events that are held each year at the University of Southern Mississippi is the M-Club Alumni Association Sports Hall of Fame induction ceremonies. I have been lucky enough to have been a part of these ceremonies for over 30 years and during that time have had the opportunity to meet some of the true legends of Southern Miss athletics. The event will be held this Friday night at 6:00 P.M. at the Southern Oaks House and Gardens located at 1246 Richburg Road in Hattiesburg. Â More... |
| From the Broadcast Booth: 2nd Entry September 8, 2011 Â What a great win for the Golden Eagles last Saturday at The Rock against Louisiana Tech and hats off to the fans that were there watching the action in the wind and the driving rain of Tropical Storm Lee. The Golden Eagles found a way to overcome the elements and a very good Louisiana Tech team to take a 19-17 victory in the season opener. Â More... | Â Â Â |
| Â Â Â | From the Broadcast Booth: 1st Entry August 31, 2011 Â Over the course of the proud and storied history of Southern Miss football, the Golden Eagles have opened their football season 17 times at Roberts Stadium since the current structure opened for play during the 1976 season and have been victorious 16 times. The only defeat was a 14-0 loss to Pittsburgh in the 1993 season opener. Â More... |
