HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss men's tennis Kale Mize has been named the Sun Belt Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week, becoming the first player in program history to earn the weekly conference honor.
Mize picked up the award after a perfect weekend on the home courts, helping lead the Golden Eagles to team wins over New Orleans and Norfolk State. Across the two-match stretch, Mize went 4-0 overall, posting a 2-0 record in singles and a 2-0 mark in doubles while setting the tone at the top of the lineup.
Against New Orleans on Feb. 27, Mize helped Southern Miss take control early with a 6-2 doubles win before following with a dominant 6-2, 6-2 singles victory. He returned the next day against Norfolk State and delivered another strong performance, earning a 6-3 doubles win before closing out the weekend with a 6-4, 6-4 singles victory.
Mize's steady play on both days gave Southern Miss a strong start in doubles and another reliable point in singles, a combination that played a major role in the Golden Eagles staying undefeated on the weekend. His results also helped continue the momentum Southern Miss has built during the spring season.
The honor marks another milestone for the program, as Mize becomes the first Golden Eagle to bring home a Sun Belt Player of the Week award. With his latest performances, Mize continues to be a key piece of the lineup and one of the leaders for a team that has continued to grow throughout the spring.
