HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss sophomore outfielder Hannah Christian (Hoover, Ala.) has been named the Sun Belt Player of the Week, announced by the league office Tuesday Afternoon.
Christian, through four games, went 9-14 at the plate, averaging .643, bringing in six RBIs and her second home run of the season in Sunday's game, where the Golden Eagles set a single-game program record for home runs, tallying six. The sophomore helped lead Southern Miss to a 2-1 series win over App State in Boone, N.C., elevating the team to rank second in the conference.
"Hannah has continued to get better and better this season," said head coach Natalie Poole. "This week she came out strong against UNCG and then continued having great at-bats all throughout the weekend! She is always ready when she steps in the box, wants to make a difference and definitely excelled at it. She is always evaluating how her at-bats go, is ready to adjust if needed and is confident in what she does. I'm proud to coach her."
The Alabama native has continued to be efficient on the diamond, ranking top five in the nation for hits (51), fifth in the Sun Belt in batting average (.438), sixth in the conference in doubles (9), sixth in the conference in stolen bases (11-13) and top ten in the conference in RBIs (29).
Christian and the rest of the Golden Eagles are back in action for a midweek matchup on March 25, against Nicholls in Hattiesburg at 6 p.m., streaming on ESPN+.
