MONROE, La. -- Steven Robinson ran for 151 yards and a touchdown, Jamarice Wilder added 104 yards and two scores, and Southern Miss held off ULM 35-21 on Saturday after the Warhawks trimmed a 20-point deficit in the fourth quarter.

The Golden Eagles (3-5 overall, 2-2 Sun Belt) controlled the game with a punishing ground attack, rushing for 249 yards on 42 carries and registering its second-straight 200-yard team rushing performance. It marked the first time two Golden Eagles recorded 100-yard games in back-to-back games since 2016.

The Golden Eagles struck first early in the second quarter. Robinson finished a 12-play, 86-yard drive by breaking free for a 33-yard touchdown run on fourth-and-2. Creighton Wilbanks added a 36-yard field goal with 17 seconds left in the half after Cace Reed recovered Nic Trujillo's fumble on a punt return, sending Southern Miss to the break ahead 10-0.

ULM answered immediately after halftime when Aidan Armenta connected with Marcellus Jackson for an 83-yard touchdown on the Warhawks' first offensive snap of the third quarter. But Southern Miss responded with more points.

Robinson ripped off a 42-yard run to set up Wilder's 21-yard touchdown run, restoring a 10-point advantage. Landry Lyddy then found Grant Page for a 21-yard touchdown after Kaden Saunders' 41-yard punt return set Southern Miss up at the ULM 22. Wilbanks' second field goal, from 39 yards, made it 27-7 with 38 seconds left in the third.

The Golden Eagles' defense supplied the complementary plays throughout, recovering two ULM fumbles and recording a season-high five sacks for 37 yards. Kobi Albert had a sack, a forced fumble and pass breakup, while Landon Sylvie led Southern Miss with 11 tackles. The defense also stopped ULM on all three of its fourth-down attempts.

ULM (1-7, 1-3) made the finish uncomfortable. Armenta capped a 75-yard drive with a 1-yard touchdown run early in the fourth, then guided an 11-play, 77-yard series that ended with a 2-yard touchdown pass to Trujillo, cutting Southern Miss' lead to 27-21 with 6:47 remaining.

Southern Miss answered when it mattered most. After the Golden Eagles forced a turnover on downs at the ULM 36, Wilder burst through the middle for a 32-yard touchdown with 1:52 left. Lyddy hit Mario Sanders for the two-point conversion to seal the victory.

Lyddy completed 15 of 30 passes for 130 yards, a touchdown and no interceptions. Armenta was 19 of 34 for 202 yards and two touchdowns but was sacked five times. Southern Miss overcame nine penalties for 87 yards by winning the rushing battle 249-157 and converting ULM's mistakes into points.
