HOUSTON, Texas – Southern Miss men's basketball wrapped up its exhibition slate Wednesday night with a 101-72 setback to Houston Christian at Sharp Gymnasium.
The Golden Eagles were right in the middle of a back-and-forth opening stretch that featured five lead changes and four ties. Southern Miss used an early 9-0 run to build a five-point advantage before Houston Christian answered and eventually carried a 50-34 lead into halftime.
Cameron Wallace paced Southern Miss with 20 points, scoring 14 before the break and adding six more in the second half. Jalyke Gaines-Wyatt finished with 12 points, while Anthony Igiede added 10 off the bench. Marcus Overstreet pulled down a team-high six rebounds as the Golden Eagles continued to work through different combinations ahead of the regular season.
Southern Miss found success getting to the free-throw line throughout the night, converting 26 attempts, while the bench accounted for 30 points. The exhibition also gave Coach Jay Ladner another opportunity to get an extended look at a roster that blends returning pieces with several newcomers before the games begin to count.
With the two-game exhibition slate complete, the Golden Eagles now turn their full attention toward the start of the 2026-27 season.
