HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss men's tennis opens the 2026 spring season with a two-match trip to Lubbock, Texas, highlighted by a season-opening showdown with Texas Tech on Friday, Jan. 16, at the Texas Tech Tennis Courts.
The Golden Eagles will also face Lubbock Christian on Saturday, Jan. 17, giving Southern Miss an early weekend that can set the tone for the months ahead. The opening swing provides immediate chances to establish rhythm, build doubles momentum, and settle into match routines as the team begins a busy spring slate.
Southern Miss will travel with a roster featuring Eric Perkowski, Saheb Sodhi, Olle Noltorp, Ritabrata Sarkar, Jay Temming, Kale Mize, Matei Varbanciu, Jose Murariu and Rasmus Becker, alongside head coach Zubin Engineer and graduate assistant Nicolas Simkin.
The Lubbock weekend is the first step in a schedule that offers steady tests and plenty of opportunities to grow as the season progresses. Southern Miss will be ramping up quickly, as the Golden Eagles are slated to host Ole Miss on Jan. 31 before returning home with welcoming Chattanooga on Feb. 1.
February brings a full stretch of matches that will challenge the Golden Eagles on both ends of the week, including Lamar on Feb. 7, Jackson State on Feb. 13, UAB on Feb. 15 and Samford on Feb. 17. The month closes with a pair of matches against UNO on Feb. 27 and Norfolk State on Feb. 28, closing the early-season segment with back-to-back competition.
March continues the pace with a strong mix of opponents, beginning with the University of Charleston on March 4 and Alcorn State on March 6, followed by Southern University on March 7 and LSU on March 8. The Golden Eagles then return to action against UTSA on March 16 and UIW on March 17 before shifting attention to the heart of the spring slate.
Conference play takes center stage late in March with Sun Belt matchups against South Alabama on March 22 and Troy on March 28, setting the stage for the final push through April. Southern Miss is slated to face North Alabama on April 4 before closing the regular season with Louisiana on April 11 and Nicholls State on April 12. The year culminates with the Sun Belt Championships, scheduled for April 16-19.
