HATTIESBURG, Miss. – After playing the first three games of the season at home, the Southern Miss football team travels to Ruston, La., for a Saturday non-conference matchup with Louisiana Tech at Joe Aillet Stadium.
Game time is set for 6:30 p.m., and can be seen on ESPN+, as well as heard on an affiliate of the Southern Miss Sports Network.
The Golden Eagles (2-1) enter the contest with a two-game winning streak, after defeating Jackson State (38-20) and App State (38-22) over the last two weekends. Southern Miss enjoys its first two-game winning streak since the 2023 campaign.
Southern Miss plays a Bulldogs squad that holds a 2-1 record as well, after opening their CUSA season with a 49-14 home victory over New Mexico State last Saturday.
Saturday's matchup is the 54th meeting between the two schools – the third longest rivalry in Southern Miss history – with the Golden Eagles holding a 36-17 overall record, including a 17-9 mark in Ruston.
This will be the first game between the programs since Southern Miss captured a 35-19 decision at Joe Aillet Stadium in 2021. Dajon Richard rushed for 120 yards and Frank Gore, Jr., threw two touchdown passes as the Golden Eagles used their "SuperBack" offense to defeat the Bulldogs.
This season, quarterback Braylon Braxton has paced the Golden Eagles having thrown 692 yards and seven touchdowns, while ranking second on the squad in rushing with 105 yards.
Running back Jeffery Pittman is first with 126 rushing yards and a pair of touchdowns, while also tied for the most catches on the season with 10. Pittman's catch total is tied with Elijah Metcalf, who is tops on the squad in receiving yards with 124.
On defense, the Golden Eagles have been led by sophomore linebacker Chris Jones, who has 31 tackles, followed by Michael Montgomery with 26, Ian Foster with 23 and Josh Moten with 22. Southern Miss holds six interceptions this fall, already equaling the total they collected all of last season.
Following the LA Tech contest, the Golden Eagles return home next week to face Jacksonville State in their final non-conference affair of the year. Game time is set for 6 p.m., and tickets are still remaining and can be purchased by going to SouthernMiss.com/Tickets.
