HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The University of Southern Mississippi, in partnership with the University Police Department, Southern Miss Athletics, and university leadership, is committed to providing a safe, enjoyable, and family-friendly tailgating atmosphere for all Golden Eagle fans and campus visitors. The following Frequently Asked Questions provide additional information on the recently released 2025 Tailgate Policy:
Where can I tailgate for the 2025 season?
The following locations are available on a first-come, first-served basis for tailgating:
Can I tailgate near Lake Byron and the front of campus?
This area is limited to fans with reserved parking in the following lots:
When is tailgating permitted?
Tailgating setup may begin at noon on the day before a home football game. All tents, equipment, and belongings must be removed by 10 a.m. the following day. Unloading zones will once again be available at designated locations during designated times based on kickoff. Game-specific drop-off details will be communicated in advance of gameday.
Tailgate activities should conclude by kickoff. A limited number of people may remain at the tailgate location during the game to monitor equipment and belongings.
Turnkey tailgate packages are available through Taylor Rental on a single game or season basis. For details, contact Taylor Rental at 601-261-5060.
What conduct is expected at tailgates?
All fans are expected to maintain a respectful and welcoming game day atmosphere. Tailgaters who engage in the following may face penalties, including loss of privileges or disciplinary action:
Am I allowed to use a golf cart on game day?
Yes, golf carts are allowed on campus. Please review the golf cart section of the Tailgate Policy.
Golf-cart parking passes are available for purchase to ensure a designated parking space on campus. Contact the Southern Miss Ticket Office to purchase.

Where can I tailgate for the 2025 season?
The following locations are available on a first-come, first-served basis for tailgating:
- Spirit Park
- The space near Southern Station will be available on a first come, first served basis.
- Student organizations will have designated tailgate spaces across the sidewalk near the Thad Cochran Center Post Office entrance. All student organization tailgates must be registered with the Dean of Students Office.
- Weathersby Lawn
- Centennial Green
- Lucas Administration Building Lawn
- East of Kennard-Washington Hall
- East of Marsh Auditorium
Can I tailgate near Lake Byron and the front of campus?
This area is limited to fans with reserved parking in the following lots:
- Lot 8 (East Memorial)
- Lot 3 (Championship Lane)
