Sheppard Named Sun Belt Preseason Libero of the Year

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss junior libero Sunni Sheppard has been named the Sun Belt Conference Preseason Libero of the Year, the league office announced Wednesday.
Sheppard established herself as one of the conference's top defensive players in her 2024 campaign, leading Southern Miss with 569 digs and ranking second in the Sun Belt with 5.13 digs per set. She also added 85 assists and 36 service aces, anchoring the Golden Eagles' back row throughout the season.
Her strong performance was highlighted by multiple matches with 30-plus digs, including a career-high 36 against Arkansas State. Along with her defensive production, Sheppard emerged as a steady leader on the court, maintaining momentum in the back row and keeping her teammates composed in high-pressure moments.
The preseason honor places Sheppard among the players to watch in 2025 as she returns to anchor Southern Miss' defensive effort.
