
Brittany Watts Named Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss Athletics announced Wednesday the hiring of Brittany Watts as Assistant Director of Athletics for Compliance. Watts joins the Golden Eagle staff on July 28.
"We are extremely excited to welcome Brittany Watts to Southern Miss," said Southern Miss Senior Deputy Athletics Director/Chief Operating Officer Shawn Jones. "She brings a wealth of experience to our team at a time of incredible change in our industry. Brittany is a rising star whose positive energy and enthusiasm shines through in every interaction with the coaches, staff and student-athletes she serves."
Watts joins Southern Miss after working at the University of Missouri since July of 2022. Her initial role at Mizzou was as an Assistant Director of Compliance before being promoted to Director a year later. Her role included overseeing Bylaw 15 financial aid and Bylaw 16 Awards and Benefits for all sports, as well as assisting with office operation oversite and overseeing the externship program with Mizzou Law school.
Prior to her stint at Missouri, Watts worked as a Compliance Coordinator at the University of Pittsburgh in 2021-22, as well as a Compliance Assistant at Georgia Tech from 2020-21. Her first assignment was as a Graduate Assistant in compliance at Arkansas from 2018-19.
She currently serves as The Chair of the National Association of Athletics Compliance Convention Committee.
Watts received her undergraduate degree in Human Performance and Science at the University of Alabama in 2017, before obtaining her Master of Education in Recreation and Sport Management from Arkansas in 2022. She also earned a Graduate Certificate in Positive Coaching at Athletic Leadership at Missouri in 2024.
