JB Middleton Captures Second-Straight Sun Belt Pitcher of the Week Award

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss junior right-hander JB Middleton (Yazoo City, Miss.) earned his second consecutive Sun Belt Conference Pitcher of the Week honor Tuesday in a vote by all 14 members schools.
Middleton won his sixth-straight decision and improved to 8-1 on the year after throwing a complete game in a 10-1 win at App State last Friday night.
Middleton allowed four hits and one walk, which came in the ninth, with eight strikeouts to achieve the team's first nine-inning complete game since Niko Mazza did it against Northern Kentucky (6/1) in the 2024 NCAA Knoxville Regional.
He never allowed more than one base runner in an inning and the only run scored was on a triple that was lost in the lights before a sacrifice fly brought him home. Middleton retired eight of his final nine hitters to close out the contest.
Currently, Middleton leads the Sun Belt in wins, ERA (1.92) and strikeouts (82).
This is Middleton's second league weekly award and third by the pitching staff this spring. Southern Miss also earned a Player of the Week honor as well.
The Golden Eagles (31-13) return to action tonight as they face New Orleans in a 6 p.m., contest at Pete Taylor Park/Hill Denson Field. Tickets are still available for the contest and can be purchased by clicking here.
