Softball Falls to Texas State in Series Opener

HATTIESBURG, Miss.-Southern Miss Softball (20-20, 7-5 Sun Belt) fell to Texas State (26-12, 9-4 Sun Belt) 12-1 in the series opener Friday night at the Southern Miss Softball Complex.
The Golden Eagles were unable to overcome an early deficit, as the Bobcats scored nine runs in the first inning and then added three more in the fifth to close out the game. The Bobcats produced 13 hits and capitalized on five Southern Miss errors.
Texas State's Madison Azua earned her 16th win of the season, throwing the entire game with six strikeouts. Jana Lee received the loss for Southern Miss, with Olivia Christian and BrookLynn White also seeing action in the circle.Â
Southern Miss' only run came in the second inning on a solo home run from Ryanna Valdivia, her third of the season.
Mikaila Fox, the reigning Sun Belt Player of the Week, extended her streak to five consecutive multi-hit games. Freshman Hannah Christian also extended her hitting streak to 13 games, marking the longest of her career and the longest active streak on the team.
