
Softball Falls 9-1 to No. 18 Mississippi State

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss Softball (16-17, 3-3 Sun Belt) fell 9-1 in five innings to No. 18 Mississippi State (28-6, 5-1 SEC) on Wednesday night at the Southern Miss Softball Complex.
A sellout crowd of 1,083 packed the stands, marking the eighth-largest attendance in program history and the highest since 2022.
Mississippi State controlled the game, outhitting Southern Miss 12-4 and capitalizing on three errors. The Bulldogs threw their two leading pitchers, Delainey Everett and Raelin Chaffin, to secure the win. Everett remained undefeated, improving to 7-0 after allowing three hits and one earned run with one strikeout over three innings.
Freshman outfielder Hannah Christian led the Golden Eagles with her eighth multi-hit game of the season, recording two hits and scoring the team's lone run.
After a two-run homer by Nadia Barbary in the first, Southern Miss responded in the bottom half of the inning. Christian led off with a single and later scored on a wild pitch shortly following a two-out single from Mikaila Fox.
The Bulldogs pulled away in the third, erupting for five runs on five hits. Kiarra Sells was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to bring in a run before Morgan Bernardini and Lexi Sosa delivered consecutive two-RBI hits. Bernardini added another two-run single in the fourth to extend the lead to 9-1, sealing the run-rule victory.
Christian knocked her fifth double of the season off the right-field wall in the third but was left stranded.
Jana Lee took the loss for Southern Miss, pitching two innings. Freshmen Kayla Giardina and Olivia Christian provided relief.
