Track and Field Wins Five Events, Women’s Team Takes Second to Close Out Sun Belt Championships

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Southern Miss track and field brought home five gold medals at the Sun Belt Indoor Championships on Tuesday in Birmingham. Overall, the team earned a spot on the podium 13 times.
The women's team finished second overall with 93 points, while the Golden Eagle men placed fourth with 94 points. These are the highest finishes for Southern Miss since joining the Sun Belt Conference.
In the women's sprints, Trinity Flagler finished runner-up in the 60-meter dash with a personal-best time of 7.36 seconds. She also placed fourth in the 200 meters at 23.55 seconds. Kennedi Sanders claimed victory in the 400 meters with a personal-best 54.17, while Addison McLaurin secured third place in 54.67. Jaellene Burgess dominated the 800 meters, winning in 2:07.70, a personal best. Maria Kaylor finished third in the 5,000 meters with a time of 16:49.84. The Southern Miss women's 4x400-meter relay team capped off the meet with a first-place finish, clocking 3:41.49. In field events, Za'Isha Fraser won the triple jump with a leap of 12.93 meters (42 feet, 5 1/4 inches), and Jelese Alexander placed third in the long jump at 5.60 meters (18-4 1/2).
On the men's side, Kingsley Unorji captured the 60-meter title in 6.71 seconds, with teammate Gracious Ushie finishing third in 6.74. Kelsey Singleton placed third in the 400 meters at 47.68. In field events, Zayne Palomino finished third in the high jump at 2.18 meters (7-1 3/4), while De'Aundre Ward placed third in the long jump with a mark of 7.37 meters (24-2 1/4).60 Meters: 2nd – Trinity Flagler (7.36)
