HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss assistant coaches Jason Semore and Dominique Bowman were each named finalists this week for the 2025 FootballScoop Coach of the Year awards, presented by TeamWorks.
The FootballScoop Coach of the Year awards program is the only of its kind to honor coaching across every position on the field, senior support staff roles, and coordinators at the divisional level. Now in its 18th year, the FootballScoop Coach of the Year award winners also stand alone in that winners are chosen by prior winners.
Semore, who also serves as the Golden Eagles defensive coordinator, was nominated at linebackers coach, where he coached Chris Jones and Michael Montgomery, the No. 1 and No. 3 tacklers in the Sun Belt Conference, respectively. The duo also both ranked in the Top 20 nationally in the FBS.
Bowman, who was nominated for defensive backs coach, had a group that tallied 18 of the team's 21 interceptions during the year, including Josh Moten who tied for the SBC's lead in picks with five.
Nominated by fellow coaches, the 2025 finalists are a group of 89 men chosen among a cast of thousands across the 729 football-playing institutions in the NCAA and NAIA. Finalists for off-field awards will be announced later this week.
Winners will be announced beginning Monday, Dec. 8, and will be honored in conjunction with the American Football Coaches Association convention beginning Jan. 12 in Charlotte.
