HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Southern Miss Department of Athletics is proud to announce the successful completion of its annual Giving Day initiative, which resulted in 176 donors contributing more than $102,000 in support of Golden Eagle student-athletes.
In total, $102,502 was raised to benefit four priority areas: the Athletic Director's Discretionary Fund, sport-specific giving, the Competitive Excellence Fund, and the Eagle Club Scholarship Fund.
"We are deeply appreciative of every donor who stepped up on Giving Day to support our student-athletes. These contributions directly enhance their experience—on the field, in the classroom, and in their personal development. The Southern Miss family continues to inspire us with their commitment to helping our programs compete and excel at the highest level," said Jeremy McClain, Director of Athletics.
The Athletic Director's Discretionary Fund provides flexible resources to address immediate and unexpected program needs, support emerging departmental opportunities, enhance academic and wellness offerings, and strengthen operational areas vital to student-athlete success.
Sport-specific giving directly impacts team needs such as equipment upgrades, travel resources, academic support services, and training and development enhancements—improving the daily student-athlete experience while alleviating pressure on the department-wide budget.
The Competitive Excellence Fund plays a critical role in helping Southern Miss recruit and retain top-tier student-athletes, expand development opportunities, and sustain long-term competitiveness across all programs.
Finally, the Eagle Club Scholarship Fund provides essential scholarship support to Golden Eagle student-athletes across all sports.
This year's Giving Day saw participation from across the country, with gifts received from 19 states and Canada. The furthest gift came from Puyallup, Washington. In total, 228 individual contributions were made, averaging $340.98 per gift.
Southern Miss Athletics looks forward to building on this momentum and continuing to grow Giving Day into a signature annual tradition for the Golden Eagle Family.
