HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss redshirt senior quarterback Braylon Braxton (Frisco, Texas) was named a finalist for the 2025 C Spire Conerly Trophy Monday, which honors the top collegiate football player in the state of Mississippi.
Braxton started the first nine games for the Golden Eagles and has thrown for 2,187 yards on 179-266 throws (67.3 percent) with 19 touchdowns and five interceptions. He has led the Golden Eagle to their most wins since 2022 (7) and longest winning streak since 2015 of five games during the campaign. He ranks No. 24 nationally in passing touchdowns, No. 25 in completion percentage and No. 26 in passing efficiency (156.2).
To start the season, Braxton threw two or more touchdown passes in his first six games, tying a school record for consecutive multi-TD contests with Nick Mullens (2015), while also enjoying a four-TD throwing game last month versus ULM. His touchdown pass total is the highest since Jack Abraham threw that many in 2019.
The Sun Belt Conference Preseason Offensive Player of the Year recorded the school's first 300-yard passing game for Southern Miss in four seasons with a 392 performance at Louisiana Tech as it was the 10th-best passing game in school history. Braxton also ranks fourth on the team in rushing with 220 yards.
Each four-year college and university in Mississippi with a football program may nominate one player, and this year's nominees represent an exciting mix of veteran leaders, high-impact performers, and rising stars.
