HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Southern Miss football team will honor the 155th Armored Brigade with a helmet sticker as part of the program's Military Appreciation game, Saturday, Nov. 15, against Texas State.
The game time is set for 2:30 p.m., at Carlisle-Faulkner Field at M.M. Roberts Stadium, as the campus will feature military vehicles that day with one taking part in Eagle Walk starting at 12 noon.
The 155th Armored Brigade combat team's shoulder sleeve serves as the sticker that the team is wearing on the back of the helmet. The shoulder sleeve features a wavy bend refers to the Mississippi River as well as a lightning bolt to symbolize the striking power and shock action of the unit, with the yellow and green being colors used for the armored units.
The 155th Armored Brigade is a combat team and a part of the Mississippi Army National Guard and recently relocated its headquarters from Tupelo to Columbia, allowing the brigade to be commanded from the National Guard Armory and its training base at Camp Shelby. The move is intended to improve training efficiency for the brigade's soldiers and is expected to have a significant economic impact on the surrounding area.
With the helmet patch, the Golden Eagles are helping recognize the 20th anniversary of deployment to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. During that same time, members also played an important part in the Hurricane Katrina relief across the Gulf Coast.
Tickets are still available for the game this Saturday by clicking here.
