Men’s Tennis Falls to UCF in Season Opener

ORLANDO, Fla. — The Southern Miss men's tennis team (0-1) dropped its season opener to Central Florida (5-0) on Friday evening, falling 7-0 in Orlando. The match was part of the Golden Eagles' two-match road trip in Florida this weekend.
Despite competitive efforts, Southern Miss was unable to overcome UCF. At No. 1 singles, Saheb Sodhi battled hard but fell 7-5, 6-2 to UCF's Yassine Dlimi. At No. 2 singles, Niklas Jensen lost 6-0, 6-1 to Mehdi Benchakroun.
Other Southern Miss players, including Olle Noltorp, Ritabrata Sarkar, Ricards Spaks, and Maxim Vulic, showed resilience but were unable to secure wins in their matches.
In doubles play, Sodhi and Rasmus Becker competed at the No. 1 position but were defeated 6-3 by Dlimi and Emilio Sanchez. Noltorp and Sarkar trailed 5-3 in an unfinished No. 3 doubles match, while Jensen and Spaks lost 6-2 at No. 2 doubles.
Southern Miss will look to bounce back in its next match against Florida Gulf Coast University on Saturday, Jan. 18.
