HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Southern Miss football team returned to practice Monday morning to start the final week of fall camp.
The Golen Eagles went through their second full scrimmage on Saturday, before taking Sunday off and fourth-year coach Will Hall said after Monday's practice that it was a great day in helmets and shorts. The practice allowed his team the opportunity to get their legs back under them, before going into pads tomorrow and the team's first Competition Tuesday.
Southern Miss opens the season, Saturday, Aug. 31, at Kentucky with a 6:45 p.m. CT contest. The game can be seen on the SEC Network, as well as heard on an affiliate of the Southern Miss Sports Network.
"It was a good day introducing Kentucky to our players from a kicking game standpoint and worked all four units all the way through O and D," said Hall. "We worked some situational stuff on last plays of the game. We'll continue our fall camp through tonight and then tomorrow we'll go again in the morning, with pads. After that, we'll break fall camp with school starting on Wednesday."
Tuesday's practice will be the team's 16 practice since starting things on July 31. With camp ending, the Golden Eagles now turn their sights to their season opener.
It's been a good fall camp," said Hall. "We've got to use this week to get ahead on Kentucky; keep our blade sharp but also start healing up some bangs and bruises because we had a physical camp. I'm pleased with where we're at. I really like this football team, y'all know that. We've got to continue to improve as we continue to go."
Season tickets for the six Southern Miss home games can be purchased by going online at SouthernMissTickets.com, by calling 1-800-844-TICK (8425) or by visiting the Pat Ferlise Ticket Office at the corner of 4th Street and Golden Eagle Way weekdays between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.
