*This is the third installation of a five-part question and answer series with Southern Miss football players during fall camp.
HATTIESBURG, Miss. – We caught up with Zack Conti for a quick conversation Wednesday morning following Southern Miss' 12th football practice of fall camp on Carlisle-Faulkner Field at M.M. Roberts Stadium. The graduate transfer from Eastern Michigan brings a combination of leadership and experience to the offensive line after appearing in 21 games over the past two seasons.Â
How long have you been playing football and what is your favorite thing about it?
"I have been playing football since sixth grade. That was the soonest I could because of weight restrictions in the youth league. I love scoring touchdowns and hitting."
Who has been the most influential coach in your career?
"I would say my high school coach has been the most influential person in my life. He just always instilled in me that complacency in my enemy."
What is your favorite football moment on or off the field?Â
"The Michigan-Michigan State game I attended at the Big House. Michigan fumbled the punt and Michigan State recovered it to score a touchdown as time expired."
Tell us something that most people don't know about you.Â
"I've had a pet tortoise for about 10 years now. His name is Rex and he's back home in Michigan right now. I let him roam around and let him eat my mom's cacti."
What's your favorite meal and where is it from?
"My favorite meal would be a homemade ribeye steak -- done medium -- with garlic butter and a charred crust."
What do you do away from football?Â
"I like to hangout with friends and play video games. If I'm feeling good out of football season, I love playing rec basketball. I do the most basic dunk - dribble up from the baseline and go flush off one leg."
What are you trying to get out of fall camp?Â
"Just trying to get right and play cohesively with the rest of the of o-line. We're getting ready to beat Kentucky."
Season and single-game tickets for the six Southern Miss home games can be purchased by going online at SouthernMissTickets.com, by calling 1-800-844-TICK (8425) or by visiting the Pat Ferlise Ticket Office at the corner of 4th Street and Golden Eagle Way weekdays between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.
