*This is the second installation of a five-part question and answer series with Southern Miss football players during fall camp.Â
HATTIESBURG, Miss. -Â We caught up with Andrew Stein on Saturday for a quick conversation after Southern Miss football went through its first scrimmage of fall camp on Carlisle-Faulkner Field at M.M. Roberts Stadium. The graduate kicker out of Slidell, La. returns to the Golden Eagles after going 17-of-23 on field attempts and 27-of-28 on point after attempts last season. Stein booted a career-long 53-yard field goal against Alcorn State last season and hit connected on five field goals beyond the 40-yard range.Â
How long have you been playing football?Â
"I have been playing football for about 10 years. I got started playing my freshman year of high school because I wanted to get closer with my buddies who played in junior high. I decided to try out for kicker on the football team because I had been playing soccer my entire life. I went from there, and now we're here."
What is your favorite thing about football?Â
"My favorite thing is being around all of the guys. Our specialist's group is a super close bunch of guys and there's just nothing better than being around everyone in the locker room every day."Â
What is your favorite football moment in your life?Â
"My favorite moment was probably last season when I hit the 52-yard field goal against Alcorn State. That was my first game back, so it was awesome."
Tell us something about yourself that most people don't know.Â
"I really enjoy the outdoors, and I like to detail cars. I really like anything that is outside - I love to be outside as much as I can be and not be indoors."
What's your favorite meal and who would you who would you eat it with?Â
"My favorite meal is probably my dad's jambalaya and I'd eat with all four of my family members."
What do you enjoy doing away from football?
"I like hanging out with my buddies back home or people on the team. I like to play golf, basketball, or whatever it may be."Â
Who is the goofiest person in the specialist group?Â
Definitely Bart [Edmiston, Jr.] and Connor Gibbs. They they have no filter and they just say whatever comes to their mind. Whatever pops into their heads they say and it's normally pretty funny."
What's the main thing you're trying to get out fall camp?Â
"The main thing I'm trying to get out of fall camp is to get back into my groove for the season and just continue to improve every single day."
