Outdoor Track and Field Opens NCAA East Regional Wednesday

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Southern Miss outdoor track and field squad competed in five different men's qualifying events on the opening day of the NCAA East Regional in Lexington, Ky., Wednesday, but did not advance in any of the events.
The Golden Eagles competed in three field events as Piers Cameron was a part of the shot put and registered a throw of 17.46 meters. Kaya Ludgood had a heave of 58.08 meters in the hammer throw and De'Aundre Ward collected a 7.26-meter leap in the long jump but none of three advanced in any of their competitions.
Javel Fullerton recorded a 52.61 time in the 400 meter hurdles but did not qualify for the semifinals. Warren Williams did not finish his 110-meter hurdles race.
The women get started with preliminary action on Thursday as Jada McDougle runs in the 100- and 200-meter preliminaries at 6 p.m. and 7:45 p.m., respectively. Trinity Benson will compete in the 400-meter prelims at 6:25 p.m., to round out the day for the Golden Eagles.
