Softball Drops Doubleheader at Louisiana Saturday

Game 1 (Louisiana 14-Southern Miss 3, 5 Inn.)
Louisiana won the first game of the day 14-3 in five innings, fueled by 14 hits. The Cajuns got off to a fast start from an eight-run second inning, holding an advantage throughout the match.
After Louisiana scored first with an RBI single to open the game, the Cajuns started to add onto its lead in the second inning with an eight-run frame off of six hits and three Southern Miss errors.
The Golden Eagles fought back from the early deficit in the next inning with three consecutive hits. Shelby Allen ledoff the frame with a single to second base, followed by Hannah Borden's 15th home run of the season, which tied the program's single-season record. Jana Lee continued the momentum for Southern Miss' bats, hitting a double, to which Kinsley Gordon shortly followed with an RBI double, making it 9-3.
Louisiana responded in the following frame, adding two runs on a ground-rule double and two more from a groundout and another home run from Sam Roe, her second of the game. The Cajuns tallied a final run in the fourth with an RBI single before ending the match with two strikeouts and final groundout to second base in the top of the fifth.
Louisiana's Chloe Riassetto earned the win, while Holly Craft received the loss. Loganne Stepp and BrookLynn White also pitched in the match for Southern Miss.
Game 2 (Louisiana 9-Southern Miss 2)
Louisiana continued its offensive rhythm in the second match, again producing 14 hits for nine runs to finish the series with a 9-2 victory.
Louisiana jumped ahead with three runs in the first inning on back-to-back singles. The Cajuns scored again with another RBI single in the bottom of the third and improved to a five-run lead with a sacrifice fly.
Lee stranded two Cajuns, bringing Southern Miss back to bat at the top of the fourth. While Louisiana recorded two early outs, Maria Smith drew a walk. Kinsley Gordon then slammed her third home run of the season on a two-out, two-run shot to put Southern Miss on the scoreboard.
Louisiana again matched the Golden Eagles with two runs in the following frame, scoring on a throwing error and then another RBI single to extend the lead.
Smith and Gordon hit consecutive singles in the sixth inning to get Southern Miss going offensively, but both were left on base with a final putout from third to first base.
The Cajuns turned a double play in the top of the seventh to secure its victory.
The duo of Gordon and Smith combined for four of Southern Miss' five hits in the match. Second baseman Maddie Weeks earned the other hit with a single in the seventh inning.
Louisiana's Lexie Delbrey earned the win, while Lee received the loss.

Southern Miss will return to action this Tuesday, April 23 with a midweek contest against Ole Miss at 5 p.m. in Oxford, Miss.
