Softball Falls 7-3 at Ole Miss Tuesday Night

OXFORD, Miss.-Southern Miss Softball (20-24, 8-10 Sun Belt) fell to Ole Miss (26-22, 3-15 SEC) 7-3 Tuesday night at the Ole Miss Softball Complex.
Both teams produced seven hits in the match, but Ole Miss stranded seven Golden Eagles to its three left on base while batting in all seven of its runs to find the advantage in the game.
Southern Miss struck first, as Hannah Borden hit a double on the second pitch of the game. After Jana Lee drew a walk, Maria Smith sent Borden home on an RBI single to put Southern Miss on the scoreboard.
The Golden Eagles' lead was shortlived, as the Rebels scored on three consecutive plays in the bottom of the first, capitalized by a solo home run shot from Lexie Brady.
Southern Miss responded to the challenge in the following frame, tying the match. Maddie Weeks started the action with her first career triple, followed by back-to-back walks from Shelby Allen and Borden. Weeks and Borden both advanced home on a fielding error at first base by Ole Miss to even the score at 3-3.
BrookLynn White came in relief for Holly Craft in the third inning, ending the frame with a strikeout. Ole Miss regained the lead after three consecutive singles, with the final hit by Jaila Lassiter driving in two runs.
Jana Lee came in to pitch in the bottom of the fifth, retiring the side in order. Mikaila Fox and Weeks each reached base on singles, but were left on base with two final outs. The Rebels added insurance with a two-run home run from Angelina DeLeon in the sixth inning and then put the Golden Eagles down in order to end the match.
White received the loss, while Ole Miss' Grace Sparks earned her sixth win of the season and Brianna Lopez earned a save closing out the match for the Rebels.
Weeks set a career-high with two hits, which was also a game-high for Southern Miss, along with Mikaila Fox's two hits.
Borden's walk in the second inning tied her with Jessica Huerta's all-time record of 101 career walks, which ranks second in program history.
