Softball Falls 10-4 In Second Game Against Troy

TROY, Ala.-Southern Miss (14-18, 3-5 Sun Belt) fell 10-4 to Troy (26-11, 6-2 Sun Belt) Friday night at the Troy Softball Complex.
The Trojans scored nine of its ten runs with three three-run innings, including six combined runs scored through the second and third innings.
Troy's Haley Pittman earned the win, while Southern Miss starter BrookLynn White received the loss.
After a scoreless first inning, Pittman struckout the side in order, leading to Cassidy Boltz beginning the frame with a single. Troy scored first on a wild pitch and then Jade Sinness drove in two runs with another single.
Marissa Frederick came in relief for BrookLynn White to close out the inning, pitching for the first time since March 9 against Detroit Mercy.
The Golden Eagles responded at the top of the third as Shelby Allen reached first with a single through center field. Hannah Borden got her first hit of the weekend on an RBI single to score Allen, and then made it to home safe from Jana Lee's RBI single. Natalie Taylor got another hit for Southern Miss in the frame, but Pittman ended the frame with a strikeout, stranding two runners.
Troy added to its lead with three runs in the bottom of the third, as Audra Thompson hit a two-RBI double and Sarah Brake earned an RBI with a single.
After Ryanna Valdivia led off the fourth inning with a walk, Lauren Lindsey hit a single to give Southern Miss momentum. Coming into the game as a pinch hitter, Kayla Agner hit an RBI single to score Valdivia. Lindsey then reached home plate on a fielder's choice RBI from Allen.
Troy's Alyssa Faircloth entered the circle, throwing four shutout innings to close the game.
The Trojans added insurance with three runs in the sixth inning, and while the Golden Eagles got two runners on base in the seventh, a fielder's choice ended the match.
Borden led the team with two hits while six other Golden Eagles earned a hit.
